What I want most doesn't really come into mind, I am just someone else in that moment, and that someone else is me. I understand the character pretty well, it is like slipping into a new skin. So, when I'm under pressure that is what I do, slip into a character who can handle the pressure.

i think it depends on person to person... but personally, for me, instinct is more like intuition. like a feeling of, "if i do this, itll definitely work" but for me, the basis of intuition is rationality and factual, everything i do is something ive visualized myself doing before... well, there sure are morons who move entirely on impulse, of course.
